A good performance, says Eddie, earns us a losing bonus point.

Old Freemen’s 14 - 12 Old Wimbledonians

A superlative effort of intense defence enabled the Old Boys to come away with a losing bonus point on Saturday at Old Freemen's.
A brilliant break by Jason Murphy from his own 22 metre line took him the length of the field for a spectacular opening score after just three minutes play. He then added the extras. Sadly, the same gaping hole in the home defence did not appear again and indeed the Freemen's came back strongly. OWs quickly conceded a try which was also converted. After this the home team exerted much pressure on the Old Boys creaking defence which refused to give way. Tackle after tackle was made by every member of the side and their line was not crossed! Occasional incursions into Freemen's territory including two visiting lineouts on the home line were repulsed. A half-time score of 7-7 was creditable.
OWs regained the lead after a quarter of an hour of the second period with a superb individual effort from their full back who made a defensive catch on his 22 metre line and retaliated upfield. With no-one available for a pass he found himself wandering onwards until he crossed the opposition line in the left corner. This try was not converted. However, the home team quickly came back and took the game with a converted try.
Despite facing enormous pressure from a re-invigorated opposition, the OW defence remained unbreeched. Many tackles brought Freemen's players down just short of the line. This defence showed great pride in the team ethic and augurs well for the future.
